The project comprises development of a new indoor sports facility, with primary features being a multi-court sports hall, a multi-purpose studio space and external viewing gallery on the upper floor, with new landscaped areas to link new building with the existing campus. An important aspect of the completed facility will be its use by external community groups.

The site falls within the inner Jodrell Bank Observatory consultation zone and the materiality of external walls, and details of what electrical equipment must be for assessed and approved so as not to degrade the performance of its telescopes. The site also lies within the curtilage of several heritage assets (Grade 2 and Grade 2* listed buildings).
