Fire Stopping Services
Background
In July 2024, Leeds Building Society needed support, installing passive fire protection as they refurbished their North Shields’ branch.
Installation around services and between floors was required to prevent the spread of fire within the building.
And professional expertise was needed to implement the right fire controls. Effective fire-resisting compartmentation, enabling safe evacuation and a safer working environment for everyone on site.

Challenges
- They needed solutions which used the highest quality of products and materials, providing the required level of fire resistance and technical specification.
- Sealing holes and gaps in walls, ceilings and around pipes, as well as services penetrating fire compartments in various locations throughout the building.
- And all in accordance with current Building Regulations.
Solution
As a FIRAS accredited installer of firestopping services, Squared Circle was appointed by the main building contractor in charge of the branch refurbishment.
We were able to provide a working solution and full installation, with the highest standards of workmanship.
Removing the existing boiler room ceiling on the 1st Floor and installing Fireline board. Providing 60-minute fire protection between floors, as well as firestopping sections of ceilings that had been removed during the roof works.
Results

- And to the highest standards in line with Building Regulations and industry best practice.
- We prepared and issued an O&M Manual including letter of conformance, schedule of completed works, installation summary record, materials data sheets and photographs of each installation.
- All fire stopping installations were meticulously labelled, displaying details of the date of installation, product, and a unique location reference that could be cross-referenced with the Installation Summary record.
- Our thorough processes ensured that compliant passive fire controls were firmly in place.
- Safeguarding the health and wellbeing of all who were using the premises.
